Welcome 2026!

Happy New Year! I love January — even with the grey UK weather, it always feels fresh and full of possibilities. After spending 2025 leaning into process rather than productivity, I’ve been thinking about what that means for the year ahead.

One of my goals last year was to knit a jumper. Technically, I did start one. I also frogged the entire thing when I realised it wasn’t what I wanted. I’m surprisingly okay with that. It taught me a lot about fit, patience, and trusting my instincts — even if it left me with no jumper at the end. I’d rather have no jumper than one I don’t love. The yarn is ready for round two; I’m eyeing up the Step by Step Sweater.

I’d love to learn cable knitting, but I haven’t found the right project yet. I’d also really like to knit a pair of socks — it feels like a classic knitting milestone, and I love the idea of something practical that teaches new techniques. Cable-knit fingerless gloves and cosy handmade socks sound like a dream combination.

Alongside the making, I want to be braver about sharing. I went fairly quiet on social media last year, but in 2026 I’d like to post more regularly — not polished perfection, just works in progress, experiments, and the quieter moments of making. I’m trying to think of it less as “content” and more as a record of what I’m already doing. That takes the pressure off. Last year I made a video of one-second clips each day, and so many people told me how much they loved it. I think people connect with life’s simplicity, and that’s the energy I want to bring into this year too.

I’d also like to be consistent with the blog — one post per month feels manageable. Twelve posts across the year, enough to reflect and document without overthinking.

It also feels helpful to be clear about what I won’t be focusing on. I won’t be making amigurumi — the ladybird was enough to convince me of that. I probably won’t be diving into intricate colourwork either. None of this is a hard “never”, just an honest look at where my time and energy are right now.

My goals for 2026 are simple: learn new things, keep improving, share a little more, and enjoy the process without turning it into pressure. Slow progress is still progress — and that’s more than enough.

I’ll be sharing bits of the journey here and on social media. You’re very welcome to follow along.
